Sharmika experienced a lot of judgement when out in public with her son as a young mum. She talked to us about being judged in public as a young mum and how she dealt with it.
Highlights from Sharmika’s vlog about being judged in public as a young mum:
‘It would heighten my stress and I’d look around like who’s looking at me…’

Even when I get on the bus, because I look younger than I am as well, which probably adds to it, but I’ve got past looking at other people looking at you in a funny way and judging you. So I don’t really take that into consideration any more. Maybe because he is five now and it has been five years.
I feel like a lot of negativity happens in public places like on the bus. So if the baby is crying on the bus, a lot of people are staring at you, like ‘why cannot you control your child?’ and stuff like that. Before, I used to really like think about it while he was crying. So it would heighten my stress and I’d look around like who’s looking at me. So the advice I would give is just to focus on making sure that your child is okay, and ignore everyone else. Because as long as he’s okay, that’s all that matters and children do cry and they do get upset.
