Did you discuss co-sleeping with your health visitor or midwife?
I did not discuss co-sleeping with my Midwife or my Health Visitor because I knew exactly what they would say. After I had Delilah she came round the day after and she said like that you can’t co-sleep, your baby will die. It just made me unable to talk to her and get knowledge about it because I was too scared. I just did it anyway and lied to her and said that I didn’t. I definitely felt judged by everyone about my decision about co-sleeping.
I didn’t discuss any sleeping arrangements with my Health Visitor or nurses or Midwife, no one asked. So I don’t think I ever gave an answer to it. In my head I was always adamant that I wasn’t going to do it…Until I was here I haven’t spoke about it to anyone…
My family were very negative, very against it and then my family only gave me one opinion, don’t do it.
I don’t remember being told anything about co-sleeping or being told anything about it. At the time I lived at home with my mum so she was telling me how to do certain things. She did not know a lot about co-sleeping so we did not know the safe way but I have learned a lot through reading Little Lullaby actually about co-sleeping.
Are you aware the risk of SIDS is 50x higher if you fall asleep on a sofa or in an armchair with your baby?
I was not aware of the statistic but I think lately on the news I have heard a lot more stories. There was a father that fell asleep with his infant on the sofa. I think reading that it elaborated a bit more on why it is safe, why it isn’t…
I did know that it was unsafe to fall asleep on a sofa or arm chair, in a small compact environment. Sadly the man had killed his child by sleeping on a sofa with that child and that that baby subsequently died.
