Why I wanted to become a Young Parent Ambassador – by Sholar

This week is the last session for our latest Young Parent Ambassadors!

We caught up with one of our ambassadors in training, young mum Sholar, who became a mum at 15 to her son Jaranhi and to little sister Lashae more recently.

Here are the highlights from her vlog:

I learnt more about SIDs because being a young parent you don’t really hear it much. You hear it but you very much dismiss it.

You just think ok, that’s what happens to the older mums, you don’t really think that it’s gonna be an experience someone your age could experience.

So, we went through with it, the sleep training, and we found out that young parents are 4x* more likely to have a child that would die from SIDS.

You’re like wow.

You just want to be part of stopping that.

And also it kind of gives us the chance to tell our story of breastfeeding, how we found certain elements of parenting. So, it’s just to encourage more people to get their voice out that’s why I wanted to be a Young Parent’s Ambassador.
