Respect young mums regardless of age: getting chatted up

Opal got a mixed reaction when she told dates she was a mum. She talks about her experience of mentioning baby when guys chatted her up, and why people must respect young mums.

Highlights from Opal’s vlog about why people must respect young mums:

‘Eventually you’re gonna have to bring it up…’

You know just generally, you get chatted up, baby or no baby, eventually you’re gonna have to bring it up, baby or no baby. And when they ask you how old you are, that’s when I start to bite my tongue because then I must say I’m 19 and they’re gonna go – “how old’s your daughter?” I’m gonna go – “eight months”. And then you’re gonna be like – “So you were pregnant at 16, 17?”.

So, because you look at me and I have my daughter, she looks like a one year old and I am 19. OK, yeah the youngest I could have been, I could have been 17.

Ok I understand that but I’m a mum and at the end of the day, I deserve the same respect as a 45 year old woman, a 30 year old woman with a new born.

So I feel like age, don’t ask a woman her age.
